PLANS FOR JOHN BROWN DAY
North Elba (Lake Placid), New York,
May 1
Assemble at
2 pm at the White Church (now called Trinity Chapel) where John
Brown used to preach, located on Old Military Road adjacent to
the North Elba Cemetery. We will walk together to the Brown family
gravesite and farm. After a ceremony at the gravesite, we will
gather at the Cascade Cross Country Center for a meal. In the
evening there will be a dance at the Cascade Center, a couple
of miles from the gravesite towards Keene. So far we are expecting
the RACE TRAITORS band from Chicago and SCOTT M.X. TURNER &
THE DEVIL'S ADVOCATES from Brooklyn, playing a fusion of punk
rock, reggae, traditional Irish music, and hip-hop. We will be
providing directions and more detail on the program. Call (781)

Altadena, California, May 2
We will convene at the parking lot of Loma Alta Park in Altadena,
CA. From there, we will proceed as a group to the top of Roundtop
Hill and arrive at the gravesite of Owen Brown, one of John Brown's
sons. Highlights of the day will include music, a talk on Altadena
and the lecgacy of John Brown, poetry, refreshments, and conversation.

Osawatomie, Kansas, May 8
- 12:00pm -- Arrive at John Brown State
Park.
- 1:00pm -- Showing of "John Brown
in Kansas" a film presented by Dr. Fred Whitehead featuring
an interview with John Brown biographer, Truman Nelson. This
will take place at the "Old Stone Church" that was
founded by John brother-in-law.
- 2:30 -- Ham and bean feed at the park
with a historic portrayal of John Brown.
- 3:30 -- Tour of local sites, including
a remeberence at the gravesite memorial to John Brown's men that
fell in the Battle of Osawatomie and the Adair Cabin.
- 5:30 -- Depart to Kansas City to the
Quindaro Under-ground railroad site and John Brown Memorial for
a tour and closing of the day.
